We take inspiration from Mark Cuban, world renowned businessman and investor. Also, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Landmark Theatres, and Magnolia Pictures. He is also the chairman of AXS TV.
In this YouTube video he shares with us 12 commandments of startups. Follow each one carefully and you could be looking at a full-fledged company under your belt soon.
He says, “It comes down to finding something you love to do and then just trying to be great at it.” Yes, no truer words have been spoken. It all comes down to your passion, and what you enjoy doing, then the money will follow. When you work for something you love to do, it doesn’t really feel like work, doesn’t it? It feels like an endless road to self-discovery and development.
Some of the rules he mentioned are:
(1) Don’t start a company unless you’re obsessed with it, or something you really love.
Yes, if you can’t fight for your idea, don’t pursue it. If your idea doesn’t last the hangover, don’t even bother. If your motivation has deflated so early on in the game, you better leave it. Look for something sustainable, and something you really enjoy to pursue.
(2) If you have an exit strategy, it’s not an obsession.
If you’re thinking about the failure of your business at the startup process, then don’t take that second step. If you’re thinking of fallback plans so early on in the game, then it’s not something you love. It’s supposed to be the honeymoon phase, and you’re already thinking of the divorce. No, you’re supposed to hold your idea to the highest regard.
